- Stunning White Raku Pottery Plate with a wavy rim & crackle glaze!

- No chips, no cracks, this plate is in EXCELLENT CONDITION for being underwater all of these years!

-Traditional Japanese raku centered strictly on hand-formed, straight-sided tea bowls (chawan) designed to be held snugly in two hands. However, flat plates and decorative wavy rims are primarily the result of the Western Raku movement, which revolutionized the craft in the 20th century. Led by studio potters like Bernard Leach in 1911 and later expanded by American ceramicists in the 1960s and 70s, Western raku shifted the focus from utilitarian tea rituals to abstract sculptural art. This movement introduced organic expressions such as asymmetrical shapes, fluid wavy rims, and decorative platters. The wave-like rims mimic natural elements like water or wind, leaning heavily into the spontaneous and unpredictable spirit of the firing process.
