Haig and quickly became a classic piece of packaging history. Early vintage iterations featured a functional, hand-applied wire mesh wrap designed to keep the cork from popping out when transported to warm, tropical climates. The bottle's unique shape achieved historic status in 1958 when it was officially registered on the Principal Register of the United States Patent and Trademark Office alongside the iconic Coca-Cola bottle, making them the first two bottle designs ever to receive this legal trademark protection.
