- Beautiful & Iconic W.S. George Pottery Company "Radisson Line" Circa 1904-1960
- Two chips, one crack, this incredible cup is in GOOD CONDITION, for being underwater all of these decades! We cleaned it the best we could and any other remnants just add more character and charm to this conversation starter of a piece! This is an iconic piece of history and for being underwater all of these decades we can't believe it's still intact! It cleaned up wonderfully and makes a great decoration piece or would even make a nice planter, possibilities are endless!
- This vintage piece features the Radisson shape line produced by the W.S. George Pottery Company, an American manufacturer that operated in Ohio and Pennsylvania from 1904 until 1960. Founded by William Shaw George after taking over the East Palestine Pottery Company, the business grew to include four plants that produced massive quantities of semi-porcelain dinnerware, hotel ware, and toilet wares. Introduced in 1910 and manufactured into the 1940s, the Radisson line refers specifically to the shape of the ceramic body, which features elegant, gently scalloped rims and embossed edges heavily inspired by the popular French Haviland Ransom design. While W.S. George applied many different decal designs onto this shape, the dense, spiderweb-like network of fine cracks under the surface—known as a craquelure glaze—is most likely a natural aging effect called crazing. Held up in the Wisconsin River all of these years, quite well! This occurs over decades due to thermal expansion or minor moisture absorption in the porous clay body, which causes the glass-like top glaze to fracture. While W.S. George occasionally experimented with specialized color finishes like their 1930s Canarytone glaze, the vast majority of Radisson pieces were originally sold smooth, meaning this patina serves as an authentic, character-building sign of the item's age.
