- The famous "Triple L" Ball Mason jar, manufactured between 1896 and 1910, represents a historic golden era when the Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company grew to become the largest fruit jar producer in the United States. Antique collectors use the nickname "Triple L" because the stylized cursive logo features an artistic underline flourish that loops upward, making the word "Ball" look like it is spelled with three "l"s. This unique branding also features a distinct "dropped A" that hangs slightly below the rest of the text line, a design detail that the company officially removed in 1910. Beyond the rare script, these iconic jars are famous for their beautiful "Ball Blue" aqua color, which was created using natural sand sourced directly from the shores of Lake Michigan and crafted using early semi-automatic machinery.
