- Beautiful Vintage 1940s Lu-Ray Pastels Yellow Plate Taylor, Smith & Taylor Company (TS&T) of Chester, West Virginia
- Two chips, no cracks, this incredible plate is in GREAT CONDITION, for being underwater all of these years! We cleaned it the best we could and any other remnants just add more character and charm to this conversation starter of a piece! This is a true treasure piece & we were very excited to find this in the Wisconsin River in Rhinelander, Wisconsin! It was nestled in between two huge rocks lying on the bottom of the Wisconsin River, it was tough to wiggle it out, but we managed to get it without cracking it!
-The Lu-Ray Pastels dinnerware line, manufactured by the Taylor, Smith & Taylor Company (TS&T) of Chester, West Virginia, is celebrated as one of the most successful American ceramic designs of the mid-20th century. First introduced in the summer of 1938 and produced until 1961, the collection was created as a softer, soothing alternative to the vibrant, highly saturated "Fiesta" line that dominated the market at the time. Among its original releases was the buttery-yellow rimmed plate—officially designated as "Persian Cream"—which came to symbolize the warmth, optimism, and domestic simplicity of the post-Depression and World War II eras. Designed largely around the Art Deco-influenced "Empire" shape conceptualized by famed potter J. Palin Thorley, these plates featured smooth silhouettes that allowed homemakers to curate fashionable, colorful, and mix-and-match tablescapes without intense visual flash!
